CLACKAMAS, Ore. -- Deputies said they need help finding a man and woman caught on camera cashing stolen checks.Clackamas County deputies said a man and woman cashed more than 20 stolen forged checks costing one man hundreds of dollars.Michael Cocco said the situation has been an absolute nightmare for him and that he's spent countless hours trying to straighten out the mess, get his money back and save his credit.Cocco said the ordeal started in July when a bunch of checks were stolen out of his mailbox in Clackamas.
He said somehow the crooks got a hold of his dad's driver's license number and then, over a period of about two weeks, wrote at least 21 bad checks at area stores using Cocco's name and that license.Clackamas deputies said the people passing off the forged checks were caught on camera at a Clackamas Winco. The man and woman have passed bad checks in Cocco's name in at least seven other area grocery stores and car part outlets, investigators said.Cocco said so far the crooks have stolen at least $1,600.Now, fortunately, Cocco's bank has returned most of his money but he said his credit may be in trouble because of the forgeries and that it's taken hours of his free time to convince Clackamas stores he's not the one writing the checks."It just doesn't seem fair, you know. I work really hard to make my money and then I have all these hassles and not feel like I'm getting much help from anyone. The best help I got is from my bank," Cocco said.
